Northwest Missouri State University football steamrolled Northeastern State 79-0 Saturday afternoon for the largest margin of victory in program history.
The Bearcats (8-1) ran all over the Riverhawks racking up 443 rushing yards. Justin Rankin led the way with 214 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries. Isaiah Strayhorn also hit triple digits with 129 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
While the offense was running rampant, Northwest also played a suffocating defense against Northeastern State. The Riverhawks rushed for a season-low 26 yards and punted a season-high 14 times.
Jacob Gassman led the 'Cats with five tackles and a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Defensive lineman Mike Ehlke also found the end zone in the first half. Zach Pierce jarred the ball loose from Northeastern's Jake Pruitt, and Ehlke scooped it up and fought off defenders as he returned it 18 yards for a score.
Northwest Missouri State is on the road next Saturday, November 9 to face Fort Hays State. Pregame begins at 1pm, followed by kickoff at 2pm on KXCV 90.5, KRNW 88.9 and KXCV.org.
